400
This morning I checked KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) report. Nothing unusual, I check it almost every day. But today was a special day as the number of sold e-books was round.
Before you eject from your seat, I have to tell you that this is a lifetime number. I published my first Kindle book - 720 Heartbeats - in June 2018. Basic math tells us that I sell 100 books per year or two books a week. It’s not what I hoped for in 2018. My dreams were a lot bigger (and they still are). I wanted to sell 100,000 copies. I wanted to be somebody.
Let’s take a step back. 400 is not a lot. But it’s more than nothing. A lot more. Imagine 400 people in a room. Imagine talking in front of that kind of crowd. Suddenly that number becomes a lot bigger. But it’s not 100,000…
400 books are 1/250 of my goal. That’s 0.4%. So I’ll need another 996 years to reach it. Impossible? No. I’m an optimist. I just have to write more (and better) and be a good salesman. Or become a published author. I believe in myself and I know what I am capable of. I can sell 100,000 copies before 3018, I know I can.
You know what? I’ll do my best to reach the goal by 2030. My therapist says goals need to be specific. Here it goes.
I’ll do my best to sell 100k copies of all of my books by 2030.
I feel better already. Do you know why? Because I can see the number 1,000 in the distance. It’s still blurred, but I know it’s there. When I reach it, I’ll pour myself a glass of whiskey and light a cigar. Because on the road that I’m taking, the only way is up and you can’t wish for more. Except when you’re manic, but that’s another story.
